The Greatest F1 Driver Ever

I know many would agree or disagree about this statement of who was the greatest F1 driver. Plainly, all of us have our favourite F1 driver and we'll say that he or she is the greatest, but Senna was more than just a great driver. He was a man of inspiration to all up coming drivers, a philantrophist, he was more than just a great, he was the trancendent legendary driver.

The Top Five Reasons Ayrton Senna was the Best F1 Racing Driver

  • Senna was the best in qualifying, in fact he had the record set for having the most amount of poles. Only Schumacher had beaten the pole that Senna recorded, but it took him most of his F1 career to do it. The pole position is irrelavant comparing to how much wins you have, but when your actively racing, its important that you get pole position to increase your luck in winning the race. If Senna had live, he would probably won more championship and probably would have took his pole record up to 100. Remember that when his untimely death came about, it was his 10th season in Formula 1. If that incident never happened, perhaps we'll have a great that totally owned the records in F1.
  • Senna absolutely dominated when he raced in the rain. No matter whether it's light rain or downpour, he would still come out victorious. Many said that Schumacher was the greatest in the rain, but I don't really see him as the best at it because when Senna raced in the rain, you'll see the car dancing. If you can count how many spectacular race in the rain for Senna, He would easily take the cake. Should I list them for you? No problem, His first season clearly conveys his supremecy in the rain condition. Monaco Grand Prix he was in 13th position yet at the end of the race before the official terminated the race, Ayrton was 2nd. If the raced continued, he would have snatch his first victory in his first season. Not to mention that the car he drove was totally outclassed by the likes of Mclaren and Williams. In his 2nd season with the Lotus team somehow in Estoril he managed to take his Lotus on pole position, even when his car was slower than the Mclarens and Williams. He finally took the chequered flag in Estoril with his superb skills in the rain. Then the most memorable race in the 90's was of course was his victory in Donnington. I think its pointless to dicuss it here, you just need to see it for yourself in this video
  • Statistic never really tells you the whole truth, and that is a well known fact when it comes to the comparing the greats in Formula 1. When the legendary Fangio raced, he had many to contend against. So did Senna when he raced he had many greats that he had to contend against. Then Schumacher... yes Hakkinen was a good driver, but he retired before Schumacher really dominated F1. So in statistic side Schumacher clearly beats everyone. But truthfully he had no one to really give him a run for his money. When Senna raced, he had Mansell, Prost, Piquet and all three of those drivers were world champions. Two of those drivers were 3 time world champions. Now that says a lot about the fierce competion in the years when Senna raced.
  • The elite 3 time world champions were the likes of Niki Lauda, Jackie Stewart, and Ayrton Senna. There's more but these were the ones that distinguished the elite 3 time world champions. Senna had it much tougher to compete because he had Prost whom he fought with the most. The intense rivalry between these two drivers were apocalyptic. Both were ready to destroy each other as a means to win. Attacking each other by using politics and aggressive driving. Mostly Senna used his aggessive driving while Prost used politics to get back at Senna. The two had a sour relationship which got out of control when they were driving for Mclaren. In 1989 Prost shut the door on Senna at the chichane; therefore, Prost took the win and won the 1989 world drivers champion. What goes around comes around, and Senna had his revenge on Prost at the same track (Suzuka) on the very first corner. When the light went off Prost took the lead while Senna was left behind, then as Prost slowed down, Senna deliberately plowed to Prost's Ferrari handing the title to Senna.
  • Just take a look at the facts and see or yourself that Senna was truly a great driver. One that was so well developed as a racing driver that sometimes or most of the time, he can pull of miracles on the track. That's what we miss today, and certainly we haven't forgotten the man whom we all respect as a great driver and as a down to earth person. Ayrton Senna the greatest Formula 1 racing driver.
